Freshwater Lab Alumni Network
Making Professional Impact as Water Leaders
Celebrating 10 years of The Freshwater Lab!
The Freshwater Lab alumni from the University of Illinois at Chicago work at leading Great Lakes and environmental organizations where they excel in creative approaches to climate resilience and adaptation.
The Freshwater Lab UIC alumni network will seed a larger network of emerging Great Lakes leaders. Through reciprocal relationships with other universities, internship programs and alumni, it will grow into a binational, multistate endeavor that includes people from urban, rural and tribal communities. These interconnections will facilitate cooperation toward a future in which the Great Lakes watershed thrives and serves as a climate refuge.
Since the first Freshwater Lab course in spring 2016:
More than a series of courses, The Freshwater Lab trains 21st-century environmental leaders. Its method places contemporary scenarios before students and asks what issue they would like to address and what particular talents they bring to the equation. Rooted in the Humanities, The Freshwater Lab examines the histories that led to the present moment and how it resonates in media, literature and art. The Lab also draws from the fields of Public Policy and Urban Planning as it attracts students from a wide range of majors.
